Comment aborder la conversion d’un espace industriel de 1000 pi.ca avec des plafonds de 11’, de grande fenestration unique, et une structure de béton en un espace résidentiel épuré? L’espace adjacent étant déjà occupé par le même client, les besoins de ce loft résidentiel étaient plutôt restreints: offrir une résidence complémentaire au travail, un endroit reposant tout en finesse.

L’approche du design repose tout d’abord sur une connexion discrète avec l’espace adjacent. Une section du mur mitoyen pivote pour créer une ouverture de 5’-0’’ offrant ainsi l’unique accès entre les deux espaces. Cette ségrégation spatiale permet de séparer physiquement, mais aussi intellectuellement les deux fonctions principales de l’occupant: le boulot et le dodo.

The project challenged how to approach the conversion of a 1000 sq.ft. industrial space with 11’ ceilings, large fenestrations, and a unique concrete structure into a clean and pure residential space. Considering the adjacent living space was already occupied by the client, the needs of the new residential loft were minimal: to provide a complimentary living space, a place of rest with refinement and elegance. 

The design approach was based on articulating a discrete connection with the adjacent space. A section of the party wall rotates to create an opening to strategically divide the two primary functions of the inhabitant: work and sleep.
